New business opens on Cherry Street.

Moonlight Roller Skate Shop, a Black Woman-Owned Business, recently opened in February 2021 on Cherry Street in Downtown Chattanooga. Moonlight Roller specializes in The Moon Boot, their brand of roller skates.

The business also offers a unique service with their “disco on-demand” called Moonlight Mobile, a truck that travels to people who have space to skate but need skates. They go to parks, pavilions, warehouses, and other spaces to bring skates, pop-up floors, a DJ, and more.

Being in a skate-friendly area like Downtown Chattanooga gives the business the opportunity to connect with the skate community.

“Moonlight Roller holds multiple events every month in the Chattanooga area,” social media and marketing manager Liz Mouw said. “Our past events have been held every first Wednesday of the month at The Moxy in Downtown Chattanooga and every third Wednesday of the month at The Signal by the UTC Mocs football field.”

Moonlight Roller was founded in 2019. Its original intention was to open an 18+ skating rink. However, the pandemic halted those plans.

“With the pandemic nearing an end, Moonlight is working to bring an adult skating rink and bar to the city within the next year!” she said.

Moonlight Roller is closed on Monday, open from 12-6 p.m. on Sunday and Tuesday, and open from 10-7 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.
