1. Call to Order
Kelly Fitzgerald, Chair of the DCA, called the meeting to order. Executive Committee members attending were Adam Kinsey, Charles Perry and Gordon Stalans.
Also present was Steve Brookes, Executive Director of the DCA.
1. Old Business
(a) The minutes of the DCA’s meeting with Mayor Kelly were approved.
(b) The was discussion of the productive meeting with Councilwoman Dotley.
(c) An application for a $10,000 grant from the Chattanooga Tourism Company for flags for Juneteenth has been submitted. There was discussion of a further sources for Christmas decorations.
(d) The Executive Committee approved an $18,000 expense for strategic planning. The process will be facilitated by Jim Kennedy. The proposal will be submitted to the DCA board.
2. New Business
(a) The United Way failed to submit its request for a waiver on time. The Executive Committee decided not to waive the United Way’s $3,000 assesment.
(b) There was discussion of a Community Impact project scheduled for mid-September.
(c) A conflict-of-interest statement will be sent to board members for their signatures.
(d) The DCA handbook has been revised and will be submitted for review by Miller and Martin.
3. Finance Committee Update
For the Finance Committee, G. Stalans submitted the following figures as of March 31, 2022: $740,000 in the operating account; accounts payable $129,900.
Stalans reported that revenue is ahead of budget and that collections were coming in faster than last year. Collection of unpaid assessments has improved.
4. Executive Director Update
(a) S. Brookes proposed that a plan to spend up to $40,000 on a five-year landscaping design be sent to the Board for approval. It was pointed out that the landscaping plan and broader strategic planning go hand-in-hand.
(b) The YMCA has decided not to sponsor a pilot program to open on weekend nights for downtown youths.
